We Need Each Other

Sometimes life has a way of knocking us off our feet.

That's exactly what happened to me a week and a half ago when I caught this nasty flu bug that's going around. It was bad. I don't remember ever feeling that sick. A fever of over 102, sore muscles and body aches, chills, lightheadedness, and just plain old weakness... it was bad.

And I felt as though I couldn't do anything.

I went from sleeping in my bed to my living room couch to my living room floor, and back again to my bed. That was my routine. For about eight days.

I didn't even do work -- I just rested. I needed to give myself and my body enough time to recover.

And I discovered one thing to be true: I need help from other people.

I need help while I'm well, but while I was ill, I needed other people... to take care of Aiden, to bring me groceries, to bring me medicine, to check in on me from time to time to make sure that I was okay.

I may be strong. But I'm not invincible. And I need help from other people.

We all do.

  1. Glad you are feeling better. Our bodies will indeed show us who is in charge. No, we can't do everything and sometimes it is good to take the help. I like to think its cashing in for all of those times we carried everything with no help. The beauty is there are people that are willing to help, the only thing we need to do is ask!

  2. I can't remember how I came across your blog, but this post really resonated with me. I just moved to a new state and have no family and virtually no friends. I didn't realize just how much I need a good support system until I didn't have one. Glad you are feeling better and I hope you got the help you needed.

  3. I agree. Sometimes I,habe issues relinquishing reonsibilites for my daughter to,my mom when I get sick. During Bubba's first year, I almosy caused myself to,be hospitalized because I had the flu but was determined to still take care of mommy stuff myslef. My mother forced me to relax and take care of myself while she took care of Bubba. When I got better, Bubba was still in one piece and that's when I learned that I have to twke care if me in order to,take care of her. Glad ur feeling better!

  4. I'm glad you are feeling better! Life constantly reminds us that we were meant to live as a village/tribe -- surrounded by one another, connected to one another, and of course, uplifting one another.

  6. That's the thing with us single moms. We think we can do it all, but we can't. We do need to ask for help when we need it badly. Lucky for us, there are people who love us and are willing to lend a hand.

Good you're feeling better now. Take care.

  7. Oh, I definitely agree with you. Moms cannot care for children in a vacuum - we need the support of our children's fathers, of our friends and families, of our community...etc. Glad you're doing better!! xoxo
