All Things Fitness with Momtrends

So you wanna loose weight and get in shape this year, huh? Well lovelies, have I got a treat for you!

Last week, along with a few other NYC Bloggers, I was invited to attend a New Year, New You event hosted by Nicole Feliciano, the Founder and Editor behind the Momtrends Movement. Located in in the DUMBO section of Brooklyn, the event was held at The Fitness Guru.

As event attendees sat on exercise balls throughout the evening (that's right!), we looked on as Lawson Harris, owner of The Fitness Guru, provided us with great fitness tips, tricks, and even demonstrated some moves.

At first, we tackled the typical reasons moms avoid working out such as discipline, commitment, self-esteem, time, alcohol and sugar/salt intake. Lawson helped us combat those reasons with her expert advice by stressing how it's essential for moms to be there for themselves before they can be there for others. Take care of yourself first? That's my kind of advice.

Furthermore, she stresses that if you are going to give to others all week, you have to remember yourself and give something to yourself as well. Wise words right there.

For those of us dealing with self-esteem issues such as wanting to get into shape/loose a few pounds before joining a gym, Lawson reminded us that there's no need to do this. Our gym should be filled with people of all different shapes and sizes.

And as far as discipline goes, or lack thereof, give yourself one pity party day per week. ONE! Then get thee to the gym and work it!

If you prefer to workout at home, you can do wonders if you purchase small weights -- 5, 8, or 10 pounds, a small exercise ball and/or a yoga mat. I have 8 pound weights at home for strength training on days that I cannot make it to the gym. It's fabulous!

After the event, I felt so inspired that I doubled the length of my workout the following day. Ha! Hopefully with these tips, I'll be able to keep up my momentum throughout the year.

Thanks to Momtrends for hosting such a great event!

  9. I'm hoping that I'll still be able to feel inspired to even workout once I have this second baby. My energy is nearly gone now, I can only imagine what it will be like when I have to chase after a toddler and keep up with a newborn.
